March 6th A cool, dry but clear day greeted the runners for the 35th Ballycotton 10 on Sunday last the 4th of March. A slight headwind faced the runners on the way out but this was behind them on the way home. It was another well orgainsed and well run race by Ballycotton Running Promotions and all their volunteers on the day. There was a good number of East Cork athletes taking part in this famous road race. For some it was their first experience of the race, for more it was now a familiar race on the calendar while for John Walshe it was his 35th time taking part in the race. A few athletes set new PB's for 10 miles over the Ballycotton course and added their names to the list of East Cork athletes under the 60mins barrier for 10 miles. James Mc Carthy finished in third place and was the first East Cork athlete to finish in the top three since John Kearney was third in 1999.

February 27th The National Inter Clubs Cross Country were held in Santry on Sunday last. Even though it was cross country it was held on very dry underfoot conditions. Unfortunately we were unable to have a team competing but we still had three athletes representing us. Sean Mc Grath finished strongly to come in 14th place. Next man across the line was James Mc Carthy in 17th place. Diarmuid Collins ran a consistent race to finish in 46th place. It should be noted that only seven Cork athletes ran in the race, East Cork's three and four from Togher. Also running in Clonliffe colours, Carrignavar's Brian Mc Mahon finished fourth in the race.
Congratulations to David and Sonia O Dwyer on the birth of their baby boy, Sean.
With the Ballycotton 10 mile road race taking place next weekend, an extensive search of past results was carried out to get a list of the top 50 performances by East Cork athletes in the race. It could also be a list of club athletes under the magical 60 minute barrier for 10 miles.
