July 11th
Two East Cork AC athletes made the trip to the Morton Stadium in Santry this weekend to compete in the National Track and Field championships. In the 5000m Sean McGrath improved on last years 12th place to finish in an impressive 10th place in a time of 15.04. It was a weekend of mixed fortunes for James McCarthy. In the 1500m semi final on Saturday he managed a PB of 3.57 and in doing so qualified for Sunday's final. Less than 24 hours later James toed the line for the steeplechase. Despite a positive start he fell at the water jump midway through the race and never really recovered, and pulled up a few laps later - saturday's efforts still very much in his legs.
