First in action were our International athletes, Kathleen O'Brien and Frank Hayes, representing Ireland in the Master Cross Country                International on Saturday.  It was held in Bellahouston Park, Glasgow on a tough and muddy course where conditions were said to be a mixture of the hills in the County Senior and the mud of the Munster Novice plus wind and rain!!!
Running over a distance of 6km, Kathleen O Brien finished third in the O65 category and led the Irish team to Silver medals in the O65 category.

On Sunday the National Intercounties were held in Sligo Racecourse.   It was a typical cross country course with a few hills and muddy underfoot conditions.  East Cork were well represented with many doing their bit for the Cork team.
Frank Hayes who was in Sligo supporting his daughter in the Juvenile races, was willing to run for the Cork team but as they had enough numbers he was entitled to have a day off.  James McCarthy finished in 37th place and Sean McGrath finished in 59th place.  Having driven up to                spectate, Timmy O'Donoghue gave great support by then deciding to run the race and finished in 73th place.  James and Sean were scoring             members of the Cork team that won Bronze medals.  Also on the team was Steven Dineen from Carrigtwohill, who finished in 53rd place.

November 7th
A new record was set on sunday the 6th of November at the County Senior Cross Country when East Cork won the Senior Men's title or the 9th year in a row.  It was ran on a hilly course but despite good underfoot conditions it was still tough
running.
Athough running with a hip injury, Sean Mc Grath ran a great race to finish in 2nd place overall and leading the team home.  Next across the line was James Mc Carthy in 4th place.  Having a great battle throughout the race Fergus Meade & Frank Hayes proved that every place counted in the team battle to finish in 7th & 8th respectively. This gave us a team total of 21 points, the same as Leevale but as our fourth man was ahead of their's we claimed the County Cup again.   There was good backup by the remaining team members with the next three coming in closely together; Diarmuid Collins in 12th, Timmy      O'Donoghue in 16th and Roy Fahy in 17th.   Next man home was Frank O'Carroll in 22nd, followed by Denis Mc Carthy in
26th and David O'Dwyer in 28th.  It was great to see current runners & former out supporting the team on the day.

Race 7   Well done to everyone who took part this year!

February 13th
East Cork AC successfully defended their Munster Senior mens Cross Country title in Kilnaboy Co. Clare today. On a day that saw all four seasons present, an impressive run by Sean McGrath saw him finish in second place behind Sean Hehir of Rathfarnam & Clare with James McCarthy taking the bronze medal. Diarmuid Collins took the third place on the team, but it was the battle for the 4th spot that captured the imagination of the small but enthusiastic crowd present. Eric Meade & Denis McCarthy turned back the clock as they waged battle on each other through sunshine, cow dung and hailstones. In the end it was Eric who prevailed but the gutsy performance of both men left many young pretenders in their wake.
As they travelled together their clubmates would interested to know what the conversation was like on the long journey back to East Cork!

Diarmuid Collins (45th) was unlucky not to be a scoring member of the Cork
team, finishing a mere two places behind Fergus.
